Atlanta’s Most Endangered Historic Places List
In May 2001 the Atlanta Preservation Center placed 22 historic buildings and sites on its list of Atlanta’s Most Endangered Historic Places. All of these places, which have architectural, historical and cultural significance, are threatened by the wrecking ball, neglect, a “better” use or no use at all.
The buildings range in age from the 1850’s Civil War house of Judge William Wilson to the 1940s International Style Hightower Textile Engineering Building at Georgia Tech. They are located throughout the city from Ben Hill to Brookhaven and from Kirkwood to southwest Atlanta. They’ve provided many services over the years, including education, manufacturing, funereal, medical, commercial and residential. Click on the each place for additional information.
