2001 List of Endangered Buildings:

Brookhaven Neighborhood

The close-in location and attractive setting of the Brookhaven Neighborhood, dating from the 1910s, has made it an ideal place to live. Unfortunately, many of the older homes have been demolished and replaced by houses incompatible with the scale, character, setting, and setbacks of the other homes in the neighborhood. Concerned residents are exploring the option of local historic designation to stem the demolition of historically significant homes and to ensure that new construction is appropriate to a historic neighborhood. Teardowns and construction of incompatible, often larger homes is also occurring throughout Atlanta, from Buckhead to Inman Park.
