The Interlocking Tower for Atlanta’s grand Terminal Station (1905-1971) can be seen from the Mitchell Street bridge over the railroad tracks. The tower was used to control all of the switches into the train yard. The exterior of the two-story building has characteristics that are similar to the Renaissance Revival façade of Terminal Station -- a red-tile roof and arched doorway. The station, designed by P. Thornton Marye, was demolished in 1971 for the Richard Russell Federal Building.
