Committee of the Atlanta Preservation Center:
2005 List of Endangered Buildings:
Peachtree Heights West
Neighborhood, 1911-1920s
Address: Area including portions of Peachtree Battle Avenue, Habersham Road
and Andrews Drive and all of Cherokee and Rivers roads
Contact: Atlanta Preservation Center, 404-688-3353, x12
Threat: Tear downs of historic houses and replacement by inappropriate infill
and damage to the Carrere and Hastings landscape concept.
This is one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods incorporating exceptional
quality architecture and exquisite landscape design. Atlanta’s top architecture
firms designed many houses, including Hentz, Reid and Adler, Pringle and Smith
and Cooper and Cooper. The New York architecture firm of Carrere and Hastings
designed the area’s distinctive landscape with sweeping lawns and large stands
of trees. The neighborhood is working on obtaining an overlay to protect its
historic character.
